In other words – where there is no vision people lose direction, motivation, purpose, passion, creativity, commitment and even interest.
I will randomly stop people by an elevator and say, “Hello, I’m new around here – would you help me. Could you tell me one or two of the company’s strategic goals and how your department is contributing to reaching those goals?”
Invariably I get blank stares.
Here is the challenge – most employees know “their job” – they know “what” they do, BUT have no clue as to how their company makes money. If they don’t know how they affect the bottom-line, how can they responsibly help the company be more profitable? In addition, if they don’t understand where the company is going, how can they help the company get there?
